Press Release: YVHA Releases Full Draft Brown Ranch Community Development Plan
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO – After exhaustive community input and expert technical assistance, the Yampa Valley Housing Authority (YVHA) released its full draft Brown Ranch Community Development Plan. The Plan outlines all the aspects of the new neighborhood, including street design, housing typologies, parks and open space, infrastructure, and project economics, all guided by sustainability and health equity best practices The Plan also includes the Housing Demand research, showing why Steamboat Springs needs 1,400 homes now for current workers. YVHA requests that community members comment on the draft Plan by participating in a short survey located on the Brown Ranch website before December 2, 2022.
“Brown Ranch offers the residents of Steamboat Springs an unprecedented opportunity to take control of our housing future and design the community in which we want to live,” said Jason Peasley, executive director of YVHA. “Brown Ranch is designed by the community, for the community, to maintain and build upon the best part of Steamboat Springs and Routt County – the community itself.”
The Community Development Plan for Brown Ranch presents a vision for the neighborhood development of the 534-acre site. It is shaped by the vision and guiding principles created by the Brown Ranch Steering Committee, feedback from extensive community engagement, health equity considerations, and general sustainability and resilience principles.
This draft is available for public review through Friday, December 2nd. Community members have the opportunity to review the full, detailed Plan or an abridged Plan Summary. The survey asks the following questions:
- What parts of the Brown Ranch Community Development Plan inspire you?
- What are your remaining concerns?
- Do you hope to live at Brown Ranch?
- Do you have a story you would like to share about your experience finding housing in and around Routt County?
- Can we share your story?
A fillable survey form is on the Brown Ranch website.
This community input will continue to inform the final Brown Ranch Community Development Plan, which YVHA anticipates will be ratified by the YVHA Board of Directors in December 2022.
